Reinvention Isn’t a Midlife Crisis.
It’s a Power Move.
Helping purpose-driven adults 50+ build a business that fits their life—with clarity, confidence, and no fluff.
I have been reflecting a lot lately about "comfort zone" and people who are telling me that they are so afraid of risk. If they even just attempt to get out of their comfort zone, they are getting paralyzed instead of excited. I know... I have written about "Go Big or Go Home". And that is valid for dapper, courageous, fearless people who just need a little nudge. But, after pondering it, I think that there is more to it. There is space for people who need smaller steps.
Yesterday, I launched my YouTube channel and uploaded my very first video. Was it perfect? Ha! Absolutely not. Did I feel uncomfortable? Oh, you bet. But guess what—I did it anyway, and I survived (my dignity?... I dunno. You tell me).
See, here's the thing about growth: we're constantly told to get out of our comfort zones. "Go big or go home!" But what happens when going big leaves you panicked, frozen, and feeling like a deer caught in headlights? Exactly—nothing.
Comfort Zone Myth-Busting
Let's clear this up: massive discomfort does not automatically mean massive growth. In fact, too much discomfort usually equals paralysis. You stall, feel anxious, and then pile on guilt and shame for "not being brave enough."
Growth should feel challenging but manageable. It’s the sweet spot of discomfort where you're a little nervous but still able to take action. Like my imperfect YouTube video—I was uncomfortable, but it didn’t stop me.
Finding Your Stretch Zone
Think of your comfort zone like an elastic band. If you stretch it gently, it expands without breaking. Stretch it too hard, too fast, and—snap! You're left holding two useless pieces (sometimes hurting your nose in the process 😂).
Here's how to gently stretch without snapping:
Your Challenge for the Week
What’s one small step you can take right now that gently pushes your comfort zone without triggering panic mode? Pick something achievable, slightly uncomfortable, and commit to it.
Growth is not about feeling terrified; it's about stepping into mild discomfort and realizing you're stronger than you think. Ready to stretch—gently? Let's do this! Next week, we'll build on this idea by exploring how to set ambitious yet attainable goals—goals that challenge you without overwhelming you. Stay tuned!
